CP-24879 hydrochloride is a fatty acid that has been shown to have broad-spectrum antioxidant activity. It can be used in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and retinal degeneration. CP-24879 hydrochloride is able to inhibit oxidative stress and prevent mitochondrial membrane potential from decreasing. It has been suggested that this agent may play a role in the prevention or treatment of neurodegenerative diseases by maintaining cellular homeostasis. This compound has also been shown to activate h2o2-induced apoptosis and induce photoreceptor cell death in laboratory animals.
