It blocks the enzymatic activity of DNA polymerases, including reverse transcriptase, and prevents the synthesis of new viral DNA. 4-(Isobutylamino)-2-(Methylthio)Pyrimidine-5-Carboxylic Acid is also an activator for HIV integrase, which is an enzyme that integrates HIV DNA into the host genome.
