CAS :Sulfocostunolide A is a dibutyl sulfate derivative of costunolide, which is a sesquiterpene lactone. It has been shown to have potent cytotoxic effects against tumor cells in culture and inhibits the growth of bacteria. Sulfocostunolide A has also been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandins, which are involved in inflammation, and is an inhibitor of the enzyme COX-2. It has been shown to prevent the development of tumors in mice with skin cancer. Sulfocostunolide A can be synthesized from dehydrocostus lactone by catalytic hydrogenation, followed by esterification with dibutyl phthalate. This compound can be obtained as a white powder that is soluble in ethanol, acetone, and chloroform. Sulfocostunolide A can also be synthesized from ursolic acid by reaction with terephthal
