The monophosphate form of this compound has been shown to activate the DNA synthesis and promote cellular proliferation by stimulating the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase. 2'-Deoxy-4-desmethylwyosine is also an antiviral agent that blocks the synthesis of viral ribonucleic acid (RNA).
