CAS :iST2-1 is a regulatory protein that may play an important role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It has been shown to be over-expressed in IBD patients and animal models, which may lead to increased levels of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. The pharmacokinetic properties of iST2-1 are not fully understood, but it appears to have a short half-life and low bioavailability. In vivo toxicity studies have shown that this molecule has no effect on cardiac function or hematopoietic cells. IBD patients with elevated levels of iST2-1 show higher plasma concentrations of this protein than those without IBD.
