It inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF), by blocking the lipoxygenase pathway. 2-(2-Acetamidophenyl)acetic acid also inhibits the expression of proinflammatory genes, such as IL-1β and IL-6, in human cells. 2-(2-Acetamidophenyl)acetic acid is used for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, eye disorders, and inflammatory diseases.
