CAS :Gimeracin is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to gimeracil and acetic acid. Gimeracin has been shown to inhibit glucose uptake into cells, which may be due to its inhibition of the sodium-glucose co-transporter 1 (SGLT1). Gimeracin has also been shown to produce cytotoxic effects on human cancer cells, with the potential for radiation therapy. The mechanism of toxicity may be related to the production of reactive oxygen species.
