CAS :H-Ala-Ala-Ala-Ala-Ala-Ala-OH is a cyclic peptide that is a competitive inhibitor of the aspartate transporter, specifically the aspartate/alanine exchanger, glut1. It binds to the amide group of glut1 and blocks the uptake of glutamate into cells. H-Ala-Ala-Ala-Ala-Ala-Ala-OH has been shown to be effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is an opportunistic pathogen that causes infections in immunocompromised patients. The drug also has a high affinity for glutaminase activity, which leads to hydrolysis of glutamine. This drug can also bind to redox potentials and act as a reductant or oxidant.
