CAS :Benidipine is a calcium channel blocker that inhibits the flow of calcium ions into cardiac and smooth muscle cells, which decreases the rate of these cells' contractions. Benidipine also has been shown to have a protective effect on the heart by preventing injury from coronary artery disease and other cardiovascular diseases. In addition, benidipine is not broken down in the liver and has a low risk of drug interactions. Benidipine has been found to be effective in reducing blood pressure in patients with chronic renal failure, although it may cause tubulointerstitial injury. The effects of benidipine are thought to be due to its ability to inhibit the release of growth factor-β1 from human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNLs) and inhibit the proliferation of HL-60 cells.
