CAS :Diethylene glycol is a polyethylene glycol ether that is used as an industrial solvent and a chemical intermediate. It is also used in the manufacture of polyester polyols, polyester resins, and polyurethane adhesives. Diethylene glycol has been found to be toxic to humans when ingested orally in large doses. The chronic toxicity of diethylene glycol in humans was studied using a human serum assay. When tested with human serum, diethylene glycol was found to have moderate chemical stability and low reactivity with water vapor. Diethylene glycol can be synthesized by reacting ethylene oxide with propylene oxide.
