Naltrindole binds to the κ-opioid receptor, which is found in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues. It also interacts with other receptors, including the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and creatine kinase. This drug has been shown to have antinociceptive properties in animal models of pain. Naltrindole inhibits locomotor activity, but does not affect muscle contraction or relaxation. The clinical relevance of this drug is being investigated for use in treating chronic pain conditions.
