CAS :Produit contrôléModafinil is a racemic mixture of the enantiomers, d-modafinil and l-modafinil. It is a wakefulness promoting agent that has been approved for the treatment of narcolepsy in the US, EU, Canada, and Australia. Modafinil binds to the dopamine transporter and blocks its activity, which increases extracellular dopamine levels. It also inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine from their presynaptic terminals, resulting in increased extracellular levels of these neurotransmitters. Modafinil may be useful for treating other disorders such as cocaine dependence and Parkinson's disease.
