Selective, potent, competitive and reversible inhibitor of human 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD-1) with IC50 of 2.3 nM and more than 10000-fold selectivity over the related 11β-HSD-2 isoform. BMS 823778 inhibits conversion of cortisone in cortisol and has applications in the treatment of diabetes type 2 since it can influence the occurrence of insulin resistance.
