3-Fluoro-4-hydroxybenzamide is an efficient synthetic intermediate for potassium salts. It can be prepared in high yield by the reaction of 3-fluorobenzoyl chloride with potassium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid in aqueous solution. The regioselective synthesis of 3-fluoro-4-hydroxybenzamide from 3-fluorophenol and ammonia is also described.
