LDV is a drug that is used to treat chronic viral hepatitis. It belongs to the class of drugs known as nucleoside analogues and inhibits the replication of the virus by blocking DNA synthesis. LDV has been shown to be effective for treating chronic hepatitis B, chronic hepatitis C, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. LDV is metabolized by the liver into its active form, tenofovir. LDV can cause liver impairment and has drug interactions with other drugs. LDV also causes thermal expansion in plastics such as PVC tubing used for dialysis equipment.
