L'endothéline-3 (ET-3) est un peptide vasoconstricteur puissant qui joue un rôle significatif dans divers processus physiologiques, y compris l'homéostasie vasculaire et la régulation de la pression artérielle. Elle fait partie de la famille des endothélines, qui se compose de trois isoformes : l'endothéline-1, l'endothéline-2 et l'endothéline-3. L'ET-3 est principalement produite par les cellules endothéliales et a une forte affinité pour les récepteurs d'endothéline, en particulier les récepteurs ETA et ETB, qui sont des récepteurs couplés aux protéines G. Ce peptide est composé de 21 acides aminés et se caractérise par sa capacité à induire la contraction du muscle lisse et à influencer la prolifération cellulaire. En plus de ses effets cardiovasculaires, l'endothéline-3 est impliquée dans la régulation de la fonction rénale et a des implications dans diverses conditions pathologiques, y compris l'hypertension et l'insuffisance cardiaque.
