Tauroursodeoxycholate dihydrate is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the bile acid receptor TGR5, which is expressed in the intestines. The antibody can be activated by acetylation of its phenylalanine side chains and then bind to cancer cells in culture. Activated tauroursodeoxycholate can have anti-cancer effects, such as inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis. Bile acids are also known to inhibit tumor growth and induce apoptosis in animal models of cancer.
