It has been found to be bactericidal in both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria at concentrations of 10 μg/mL or less, and it has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by interaction with their DNA. N-[2-(2-Hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]acetamide also has an amide group that interacts with metal ions such as copper, nickel, and cobalt, as well as ligands such as phellodendron amurense.
