Quinoline-3-carbothioamide is a synthetic analogue of the natural amino acid L-tryptophan, which is used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as nephritis and immunomodulating diseases. Quinoline-3-carbothioamide has been shown to suppress T-cell proliferation in vitro and to inhibit antibody production in mice. The molecular basis for this activity is not known. Quinoline-3-carbothioamide has also been shown to have beneficial effects on renal disease in rats by preventing the development of glomerulonephritis.
