CAS :<p>3-Epialexine is a novel small molecule that inhibits sucrase, the enzyme responsible for cleaving glucose from sucrose. 3-Epialexine binds to the active site of this enzyme, preventing d-glucose from binding and being broken down. This leads to an accumulation of d-glucose in the intestinal lumen and could be used as a lead compound for the development of drugs to treat diabetes.
