YM-298198 hydrochloride is a novel allosteric modulator of metabotropic glutamate receptors, which are involved in the modulation of neuronal activity. It has been shown to inhibit the neurotransmitter release of dopamine and glutamate. YM-298198 hydrochloride has also been shown to have neuroprotective effects in models of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. It inhibits the release of glutamate and dopamine, which may be due to its ability to bind to the metabotropic glutamate receptor by an allosteric mechanism.
