2-(2,6-Difluorophenyl)-2-methylpropanoic acid is a synthetic compound that is structurally similar to asparagine. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of posttranslational hydroxylation of proteins and the biosynthesis of epidermal growth factor (EGF) in rat liver microsomes. 2-(2,6-Difluorophenyl)-2-methylpropanoic acid has also been found to act as an agonist for the receptor for EGF, which leads to the activation of mitogenic responses in cells. This compound may also have a role in the development and maintenance of skin tissue, since it has been shown to stimulate epidermal growth and inhibit keratinocyte apoptosis.
