Sunitinib is a drug that is used to treat renal cell cancer. It is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that binds to the ATP-binding site of the enzyme, which prevents the activation of the protein. Sunitinib has been shown to be effective against metastatic renal cell cancer and can be used with other drugs such as docetaxel or paclitaxel. Sunitinib's active metabolite, N-desethyl sunitinib, has also been shown to have similar effects on kidney cancer cells as its parent compound.
