CAS :7,8-Dihydroneopterin is a copper-containing compound that is found in the human body and has been shown to be involved in the regulation of transcription. The presence of this compound in the human body has been linked to neopterin levels, which can be measured by high values. 7,8-Dihydroneopterin has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth and may have antimicrobial activity. It also can serve as a model system for understanding how copper ions interact with DNA. This compound binds to DNA at specific sites and inhibits transcriptional elongation during polymerase chain reactions (PCR). These sites are characterized by X-ray crystal structures and electrochemical detection studies show that they are located at the 3'-end of double stranded DNA.
