LCL521 is a small molecule inhibitor of fatty acid synthase (FAS). It has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of long-chain fatty acids and induce apoptosis in prostate cancer cells. LCL521 inhibits FAS, which is an enzyme that synthesizes long-chain fatty acids from acetyl-CoA. LCL521 also induces autophagy and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) production. These functions are important for tumor suppression and may be responsible for the antitumor effects observed in vitro.
