It also has anti-cancer properties, as it blocks iron uptake into cancer cells and inhibits cancer cell proliferation. Alicapistat is a nonselective inhibitor that binds to many different proteins, including enzymes such as proteases and kinases, which may affect physiological function. The drug has also been found to be effective in preventing inflammation caused by mesenchymal stromal cells
