CAS :Tri-isobutyl phosphate (TBP) is a chemical that is used as an additive in gasoline. It has been shown to inhibit apoptosis by blocking the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis. TBP can be found in urine samples, and can be detected using surface methodology on live cells. TBP also has chemical stability in organic solvents such as hydrochloric acid and inorganic acids such as sulfuric acid. The hydroxyl group on the molecule makes it an excellent solid catalyst for a variety of reactions, including the oxidation of fatty acids by hydrogen peroxide. The ester linkages make it possible for TBP to be analyzed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry. This compound is also used as a reagent for preparation of fatty acids for analytical methods such as GC-MS or GC-FID analysis.
