(-)-PX20606 trans isomer is a selective insulin sensitizer and has been shown to increase the sensitivity of muscle cells to insulin. It was also shown to have anti-arrhythmic effects in an animal experiment, which may be due to its ability to decrease proton transport. (-)-PX20606 trans isomer has been shown to have no effect on non-diabetic animals, but it does show potential for treatment of metabolic disorders in diabetic animals. This drug also possesses phosphatase activity, which may be useful for treating metabolic disorders caused by phosphatase inhibition. (-)-PX20606 trans isomer also has an unknown mechanism of action that may be related to its ability to reduce hepatic steatosis in mice.
