CAS :<p>Clarithromycin is an antibiotic with bacteriostatic activity. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by preventing the synthesis of peptidyl transferase, which is required for the translation of bacterial ribosomal RNA into proteins. Clarithromycin has been shown to be effective in treating a number of infections caused by pyogenic bacteria, including staphylococcus and streptococcus. The effective dose was found to be 10-20 mg/kg/day. Clarithromycin can also be administered in combination with other antibiotics such as erythromycin or ampicillin. The chemical name for clarithromycin is 2-[(3-chloro-2-methyl-1-oxobutoxy)benzoyl]-L-(+)-tetrahydropyran-2-carboxylic acid and it has a structural formula of C22H25ClNO4.
