2,3-Diphenyl-5-[(2-morpholinoethyl)imino]-2,5-dihydro-1,2,4-thiadiazole is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be neuroprotective in cellular and animal models of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. It is a glycogen synthase kinase (GSK)-3 inhibitor that prevents the phosphorylation of glycogen synthase and increases glycogen synthesis. It also decreases levels of the inflammatory cytokine interleukin 1β (IL-1β), which is involved in the inflammation process associated with many diseases. The safety profile for this drug includes no effects on blood pressure or heart rate, and no evidence of neurotoxicity or hepatotoxicity. There are no known drug interactions or contraindications for this drug.
