Tobramycin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic, which is derived from selected strains of Streptomyces tenebrarius. It functions by binding irreversibly to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. This disruption in essential protein formation results in bactericidal activity, particularly against Gram-negative bacteria.
