It can also be used to study the effects of peptides on receptor-mediated signal transduction pathways. 4-Pentadecylbenzylphosphonic acid binds to anionic phospholipids and blocks calcium ion channels by binding to their ligand binding site. This inhibits the release of neurotransmitters and slows down nerve impulses, which may help in treating pain and epilepsy.
