It undergoes carbonyl reduction in the presence of palladium and hydrogen gas to form ethyl acetate. Hydrogenolysis reactions are catalyzed by 1,1,3,3-tetrafluoropropan-2-ol in the vapor phase at high temperature and pressure. This reaction can be carried out without the need for a solvent or catalyst. The catalytic activity of 1,1,3,3-tetrafluoropropan-2-ol is due to its carbonyl group and its high boiling point.
