CAS :<p>GSK682753A is a synthetic molecule that inhibits the enzyme G6PD. It is an extracellular inhibitor of chemotaxis and has been shown to inhibit the growth of viruses and tissues. GSK682753A was designed to inhibit G6PD, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of NADP+ to NADPH. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to a decrease in intracellular levels of NADPH and ATP, causing a deficiency in red blood cells (RBCs). In RBCs, electron microscopic images show that G6PD deficiency leads to a reduced number of mitochondria and rough endoplasmic reticulum as well as increased numbers of lysosomes.
