Glucosyl(β)-sphingosine-d5 is a synthetic lipid that is used as a research tool to study protein interactions and receptor activation. Glucosyl(β) sphingosine-d5 has been shown to activate ion channels, such as the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, by binding to the ligand binding site. This lipid also inhibits the activity of peptides, such as calcitonin gene-related peptide and substance P. Glucosyl(β) sphingosine-d5 can be used in pharmacological studies as an inhibitor of cell proliferation and as an anti-inflammatory agent.
