CAS :N,N'-Methylenebis(urea) is a metal chelate compound that is used as a detergent composition additive. It has been shown to be effective for the removal of organic stains from metal surfaces. N,N'-Methylenebis(urea) is also used in chromatographic applications and can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of polycarboxylic acids and malic acid. The addition of this chemical to a solution containing urea nitrogen, ochrobactrum, and malic acid will lead to the formation of a copper complex. The reaction mechanism for this process involves the formation of an aminopyridine intermediate from the methylenebis(urea) molecule. This intermediate reacts with malic acid to form an aminotetrahydropyridine product that reacts with ochrobactrum to form an ochrobactrum-aminotetrahydropyridine product.
