3-Bromo-2-fluorophenylacetic acid is a plant growth regulator that inhibits the activity of 13-hydroxylase, which converts 3-bromo-2-fluorophenylacetic acid to maleic acid. This compound is used in agriculture as a crosslinking agent for polyethylene and polypropylene films. It is also used in the manufacture of synthetic rubber and plastics. 3-Bromo-2-fluorophenylacetic acid has been reported to be an effective herbicide for resistant cultivars and can be used as a carbon source for plants.
