Phox-I1 is a potential therapy for cardiac hypertrophy, coronary heart diseases and metabolic disorders. It is an enzyme that oxidizes guanosine diphosphate to produce reactive oxygen species. Phox-I1 has been shown to cause cardiac hypertrophy in knockout mice by a redox signal from the oxidases it activates. This enzyme has also been shown to have anti-cancer effects on cells in culture, leading to apoptosis.
