Des(3-pyridylmethyl tert-butylaminocarbonyl) indinavir hydrochloride is a potent inhibitor of HIV protease. It blocks the conversion of the viral polyprotein to mature proteins and prevents virus replication. This drug has been shown to be effective against HIV-1 strains resistant to other protease inhibitors. Des(3-pyridylmethyl tert-butylaminocarbonyl) indinavir hydrochloride is also an activator of protein interactions and can be used as a research tool for studying ligand/receptor interactions.
