2,3-Dihydro-1-benzothiophene-1,1-dione is an inhibitor of mitotic kinesin. The sulfone moiety of this inhibitor is electron rich and has a high degree of electrostatic attraction to the benzene ring. This compound has been shown to have in vivo activity against mitotic kinesin, with a potency similar to that of taxol. The synthetic methodology for this compound was developed from a dihydrobenzofuran intermediate.
