CAS :Curcumin is a natural compound that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Curcumin is an active ingredient in the spice turmeric, which has been used for centuries in Indian cooking and traditional medicine. Demethyl curcumin (DMC) is a synthetic analog of curcumin that is modified by removing the methyl group on the aromatic ring. DMC has been shown to promote axonal growth and suppress inflammation in vitro, although it has not yet been tested in vivo. DMC also binds to epidermal growth factor receptors with high affinity but low efficacy. The site specificity of this binding may be due to hydroxyl groups on the curcumin molecule or other structural features. It also inhibits inflammatory bowel disease by inhibiting NF-κB activation.
