It is a modified nucleoside that is synthesized from thymidine and has been shown to have antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. 3'-o-(t-Butyldimethylsilyl)-5'-deoxy-5'-(1,3-diphenyl-2-imidazolidinyl)thymidine is also used in the production of phosphoramidites and ribonucleotides.
