(4-Iodobutyl)(triphenyl)phosphanium iodide is an antibody that can be used as a research tool. It is one of the most selective inhibitors of voltage-gated potassium channels, which are implicated in diseases such as epilepsy, cardiac arrhythmia, and hypertension. The binding site for (4-iodobutyl)(triphenyl)phosphanium iodide is found on the extracellular domain of the channel protein Kv1.2. This compound binds to the channel at a site different from other known blockers and induces a hyperpolarizing shift in the voltage dependence of activation and inactivation. The affinity for (4-iodobutyl)(triphenyl)phosphanium iodide to Kv1.2 is 10 times higher than for any other ion channel protein.END>
