PF2562 is a potent and selective activator of the metabotropic glutamate receptor mGluR5. It is a competitive antagonist at AMPA receptors, with no activity at NMDA or kainate receptors. PF2562 is known to inhibit protein interactions between the proteins encoded by the gene for the metabotropic glutamate receptor mGluR5 and its ligands, such as l-glutamic acid and d-serine. This inhibition leads to activation of these receptors, which may be important in research on neurological disorders and other diseases involving glutamate signaling.
