Mambalgin 1

Mambalgin 1 is a natural product that was isolated from the stem bark of the tree Moringa oleifera. It is a member of a family of cyclic peptides called mambalgins. This compound has been shown to inhibit the sp600125-induced contraction in mammalian cells, as well as to suppress expression of genes that are involved in regulating the cell cycle. Mambalgin 1 also induces conformational changes in proteins and inhibits protein synthesis. The structure of this compound was determined by chemical ligation and cryo-electron microscopy, which revealed that it has a bicyclic structure with an unusual C-terminal extension.
