EMT inhibitor-1 is a small molecule that inhibits the transition of epithelial cells to mesenchymal cells. It has been shown to have effects on smooth muscle cells and fibronectin, which are important in the development of asthma. EMT inhibitor-1 has also been shown to inhibit activation of the transcription factor β1, which may be related to its bronchodilator activity. This drug is also capable of inhibiting growth factors such as TGF-α and IL-6 that are involved in the development of asthma.
