CAS :(Z)-9-Tetradecenyl acetate is a pheromone that can be found in the fatty acid of human lymphocytes. It is structurally similar to the (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate, which is one of the three major components of human female vaginal secretions. The receptor cells for this pheromone are located in the nose and respond to it by releasing dopamine. Chemical analyses have shown that this compound has an acetyl group on its tetradecanoic acid moiety. A mutant strain was created by replacing a gene encoding malic acid with a gene encoding acetyl-CoA carboxylase, which enabled the production of (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate from glucose.
