It is used in clinical practice for the treatment of diseases such as hepatitis, osteoporosis, and cancer. L-Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate sesquimagnesium salt hydrate has been shown to stimulate hepatocyte-like cells to express markers of liver function. This compound can also inhibit p450 activity in vitro and in vivo, which may be responsible for its anti-cancer properties. It promotes the transcriptional activity of human polymerase chain reaction by binding with lysine residues on the DNA template strand and stabilizing the polymerase enzyme.
