4H,5H-Imidazo[1,5-a]quinoxalin-4-one is a potent inhibitor of phosphodiesterase. It has been shown to bind to the active site of the enzyme and inhibit phosphodiesterase activity in vitro. The drug inhibits phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) which is an enzyme that breaks down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). This inhibition leads to increased levels of cGMP and can lead to dysfunction in some tissues.
