It can be used in the treatment of bowel disease, and has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Trifluoroacetic acid methyl 3-amino-3-methylazetidine-1-carboxylate is structurally similar to small molecule drugs. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi in vitro, as well as being active against some strains of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
